Friday, May 15, is our annual Field Day at Widmyer. Here are a few reminders. Students need to have a complete set of dry clothes with them to change into. They will get wet tomorrow. This includes socks, shoes, and underwear. Students should bring a towel. Volunteers have been contacted by Ms. Lord and should arrive by 8:00 am. This fun, engaging program runs June 15 – July 23 at Warm Springs Intermediate School, four days a week from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Breakfast and lunch are included!

Mornings = math & reading support
Afternoons = Energy Express activities

Open to students entering grades 1–3 in Fall 2026.

Our Widmyer Cooking Clubs were heating up this week as we launched our first Kids Edition! Regular members of our adult cooking club—along with some new faces—joined us and brought their children for an evening of hands-on learning and fun.

Nearly 50 participants took part, helping with cooking or teaching a lesson along the way. Laughter filled the room, new skills were learned, and everyone enjoyed sharing the finished meal together. To keep the experience going at home, families also received ingredients to remake the dish and continue practicing their new skills.

We are excited to share some wonderful news with you. Our campus has been named a 2025-2026 Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase School.

Out of more than 10,000 campuses served across the country, our school was selected for this honor. This recognition reflects the dedication of our teachers, staff, and students to creating a place where relationships, trust, and respect are at the center of everything we do.

Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH) focuses on building strong connections between students and educators because we know that when students feel safe, known, and valued, they are more engaged in learning and more likely to succeed.

This award is not based on one moment or one event. It represents the consistent work happening in classrooms every day. Schools earning this recognition demonstrate:

  • Strong staff participation and commitment to the CKH Process

  • Positive school culture and climate reported by teachers and students

  • Evidence of meaningful impact on students and staff

  • A recommendation from a CKH Strategist based on observed implementation and results

Being named a National Showcase School means that relationships are not just something we talk about on our campus, they are something we intentionally practice every day.

We are incredibly proud of our staff and students for the work they do to make our school a place where everyone feels they belong. Thank you for your continued partnership and support in helping us build a strong, relationship-driven community for our children. Together, we are creating a school where students truly want to be and where they can thrive both academically and personally.

March has been a busy month for Communities In Schools at Widmyer. Sherrie Byrd has been hard at work facilitating engaging activities with our students, staff, families, and community. She has hosted the 4th annual Small & Tall Ball, her monthly parent Cooking Club, and celebrated students with their Legendary Mythical Pizza attendance rewards. The list of community and school support for all of this work is extraordinary. Thank you to Mythical Pizza, Widmyer PTO, Food Lion of Berkeley Springs, The Partnership, Starting Points, numerous Morgan County Board members, The WVU Extension Office, and everyone else who supported these programs.

Staff were trained on Classroom at the beginning of the year with activities to use technology in the classroom. Mrs. Crawford wrote an Eastern Panhandle grant and purchased stylus pens for each student in the classroom. Recently, they began experimenting with the pens and writing their letters for UFLI, words, math problems, etc. The kids loved it. The kids have learned how to change tools, colors, erase, etc.
