WVU Pumpkin Drop - October 28, 2022
The pumpkin drop began with 120 students from Mrs. Hiles and Mr. Brode’s science classes. Each team had to design a device to protect a pumpkin when dropped from a tall height. The top three teams from the school competition went to WVU to compete against 300 teams. The pumpkins were dropped from the roof of the engineering building which is 130 feet tall. Out of all the participating teams, a team from Berkeley Springs High School saved the pumpkin and landed only 4 feet 5 inches from the center of a target. Based on this performance, the team was awarded $25 for being in third place. Only 16 out of the 300 pumpkins survived the fall.
The winning team that designed and built the container for the WVU competition was Elizabeth Inman, Aiden Glascock, Scott Payne, and Luke Burch. Other students competing included Ella McBee, Tyler Hafer, Christopher Winneberger, Jayden Holmes, Trenton Cutlip, and Ettore Bosco.
The winning BSHS pumpkin drop was filmed by ESPN. The footage was shown the following day during the fourth quarter of the WVU game against TCU.
College Sweatshirt Day
This week is College Application and Exploration Week! BSHS dance classes rocked the 2022 Zombie Walk this year with Dance 1 starting the walk off by performing Thriller and Dance 2, 3, and 4 performing a Purge inspired dance in downtown Berkeley Springs.
November Reminders!
CORRECTION TO OUR PREVIOUS CONSTRUCTION POST: Concord Ave. will NOT be affected during the construction on John Street. Cars leaving the school parking lot can turn LEFT OR RIGHT. As usual, all pick up and drop off of students should be done using the athletic field lot.
The BSHS Agriculture Mechanics and Agriculture Structures class visited Mellott Company in Warfordsburg, PA. Students in Simulated Workplace classes got a chance to see industry practices in use. Students were able to see a variety of workplace skills and industry safety firsthand. Students enjoyed the trip and many students have clearer idea of what they may do in the future.
Picture Retake Day is next Monday!
Berkeley Springs High School FFA hosted a FFA Regional meeting October 13.
FFA chapter from Jefferson, Berkeley, Morgan, Hampshire, and Mineral Counties attended. About 150 students from the region conducted regional business and then guest speakers Shayne Weister present to the students about beekeeping. State Apiarist Shanda King spoke to students as well via a Teams call.

Zombie Walk
What: The Zombie Walk
Where: Downtown Berkeley Springs (across from the courthouse)
When: October 29 from 11-2
Why: A family friendly fun experience featuring zombification stations, games with prizes, student food vendors, costume contests and a parade around the block at 1pm.
Cost: FREE (except for student food vendors)
**Needed: More student vendors, any community organization wanting to set up

It is with deep regret that we inform you about a recent loss to our school community. Yesterday, one of our students passed away while at the hospital. This loss is sure to raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school, especially our students.
BSHS has a Crisis Response Team made up of a professionals trained to help with the needs of students, parents, and school personnel at difficult times such as this. At our school we have counselors available for any student who may need or want help or any type of assistance surrounding this loss. We encourage you, as parents, to also feel free to use our resources.
