Honors Chemistry students explored matter with various lab stations 🧪 From blowing up balloons to marble drops, reactions are always taking place!

Materials Needed for the Pumpkin Drop Competition We will be holding our fourth Pumpkin Drop Competition on Thursday, October 16, 2025. Students will be working in small groups to design an enclosure to protect a pumpkin from damage when dropped from high altitudes. We will be dropping the creations from the roof of the A-Building onto concrete. Each team will extensively research other designs as they collaborate to create their own. This project involves every area of S.T.E.M. (SCIENCE, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Students are requesting materials to complete their project. Materials must be at the school prior to Monday, October 13, 2025. They need a box with something to cushion the pumpkin. Some groups are going to need materials for a parachute. The items can be in any condition. This is an opportunity to “RECYCLE” items that might normally be thrown away. Below is a list of items that students have requested in the past. Any items that may be repurposed could be useful. Boxes – They should at least be large enough to hold a medium size pumpkin with space to add cushioning. Smaller boxes are still useful. Pool Noodles Pillows Tarp Bubble Wrap Empty Water Bottles Sheets Styrofoam (No packing peanuts) Duct Tape or Packing Tape Hay / Straw Trash Bags Blankets Memory Foam Cotton Balls Marshmallows Styrofoam Boxes Towels Balloons Shower Curtains Socks Orange pumpkins can also be donated. They must be at least 10 inches in diameter. The following materials cannot be used. · No white pumpkins. · No Styrofoam peanuts or other small, non-biodegradable packing fillers are allowed. · No hard materials: NO wood, metal, PVC pipe, or glass is allowed. Soft garbage cans are acceptable. · No liquids, Jell-O, peanut butter or any oily substances are allowed. · No unpackaged food. · No freezing or adding chemicals. · No electrical sources are allowed. · No Styrofoam spray allowed in or outside of package. · No glitter. · No bungee cords. Students in ELA 9 practices working together today to build "huts" like the characters in "Lord of the Flies" by William Goulding. They learned the value of strategy, communication, and teamwork and how one small bump can collapse the hut.

College for West Virginia (CFWV) coordinates three annual college-planning milestones to help students in West Virginia plan their pathway to education or training beyond high school. High schools that successfully participate in all three pathway events and meet specific criteria are recognized as CFWV Champions of College Access and Success schools. The three milestones have specific components to help students in West Virginia transition to postsecondary pathways.

Picture Day Nov. 12th

Ms. Banks's Office Procedure students took on multiple tasks for Celebrating Freedom Week. They not only created beautiful posters to hang around our buildings, but also designed and put up our Veteran Wall. All BSHS students were asked to submit names of family members who had served in the military. Those who submitted names can now see them proudly displayed in our cafeteria the remainder of Celebrating Freedom Week!
