We hope everyone has had a safe and fun holiday break! As we prepare to return to school on January 3, we wanted to remind our families of a few important points to help keep all of us safe and healthy. If your child is experiencing any COVID-19 related symptoms, please keep him/her home until a negative COVID-19 test has been received or a physician has provided an alternate diagnosis. If you know your child has been exposed to someone that was positive for COVID-19, please contact your school nurse and keep the child home until the appropriate quarantine period has passed. You may also contact our COVID Support Specialist with any questions at 304-621-3275. COVID-19 continues to be a challenge for all of us, but if we can all work together, we can keep our schools open and our activities going.
Local transmission of COVID-19 remains at the HIGH level, therefore masks will be required indoors and on buses next week, January 3 through January 7.

Due to the shortened week of December 20th, Widmyer will not be hosting MC After Three, Jr. this week. We look forward to seeing you after school in January. Thank you.

Students should wear regular shoes to school. However, the photo opportunity will be postponed until a date in January. We apologize for any inconvenience but appreciate your understanding.

Tomorrow is our annual Parade of Characters, and we are going with a "Heros" theme. Students are encouraged to dress as their favorite hero: nurse, police officer, parent, teacher, or super hero (just a few ideas). Students may wear their costumes to school; however, they need to be able to participate in normal school activities such as academics, recess, PE, lunch, and using the restroom. We encourage students to bring their costumes and change at school. Full costume masks and face paint will not be permitted. Unfortunately, this event is not open to parents and the community.
This morning our kids took part in an assembly that filled them with music and broadened their interest in the countless possibilities we have with technology. Brent Daniels Virtual Music Technology, shared by Morgan Arts Council, came alive on our Smart Boards and interacted with each classroom. Special thanks to our community partners for their endless support!

Tomorrow (10/26) is Picture retakes. This will be for students who were absent on 9/23. Parents may also request a retake if they were unsatisfied with the proof from 9/23. If you are requesting a retake, please send a note to your child's teacher so that he or she will know to send your child for a retake.
Since tomorrow is picture day, we are adjusting the Red Ribbon Week activities. We will swap Tuesday and Wednesday activities. Tuesday will be hat day (students getting a photo can put hat on after photo) and Wednesday will be pajama day.
Summer Reading Challenge update for students who turned in their summer reading challenge books at the beginning of the year: The prize books have been ordered; however, like many other things, we are experiencing shipping delays. The books will be delivered once they arrive. We have a projected delivery date near the end of November.
Next Friday is Widmyer's annual Parade of Characters. We will be providing a goody bag for the students. We would like your help in giving the students the opportunity to trick or treat. To do this, we are asking parents to donate candy. Please send unopened bags with your child to school by this Friday. Thank you for your donations!
This coming week is our fall bookfair! There are lots of great books available for purchase for our kids. Students will have the opportunity to shop during the school day throughout the week. In an effort to reduce the amount of change that students have to handle, all prices will be rounded up to the nearest dollar. Also, the bookfair will be open to parents on Tuesday (10/19) and Thursday (10/21), 4-6 pm both evenings. This is a great opportunity to get a start on holiday or birthday shopping!

Congratulations to the Widmyer Wildcats for their outstanding door decorating participation. Each class has joined in the 'Cars' themed attendance rewards program and a class from each grade level has been chosen. Great job to Ms. Brown & Ms. Unger's Kindergarten class, Ms. Waugh's first grade, and Ms. Shives' second grade class!

Local transmission of COVID-19 remains at the HIGH level, therefore masks will be required indoors and on buses next week, October 11 through October 15.
