Warm Springs Middle School will be conducting the SBIRT screening tool to all 6-8 graders on Monday September 18th, 2023. The SBIRT assessments used are the PSQ and the CRAFFT. The PSQ assess areas of mental health such as depression, anxiety, and trauma. The CRAFFT assess behaviors related to substance use such as type of use and patterns of use. The facilitators are Laura Johnson, MSW and Ashley Griffin, BSW. On the PSQ, the number 9 question addresses suicidal ideation and self-harm. If this question is answered positively or a student receives a high score, a worker will be in contact with the student. All information collected through the SBIRT program is confidential and protected by HIPPA/FERPA and is not included in your student’s file. An opt-out for was sent home with students that will need parent/guardian signature in order for your student to not participate. Opt-outs must be returned by Friday, September 15th, 2023. If you have any questions please reach out to Christina Freels who can be reached by email at christinia.freels@k12.wv.us

Thanks Amanda Miller for doing this.

For this school year we decided to implement a 0 period before we start academic instruction every day. The 0 period is a way for teachers to get their students outside and have them do some type of fitness activity to get the students blood flowing, minds clear, and to get the body working. Today was the start of our 0 period and it has been a blast.
