As HOCO Week approaches, student from each class gathered Sunday night to deck the halls in HOCO.

Request for materials for the Berkeley Springs High School Pumpkin Drop Competition
We will be holding our fifth annual Pumpkin Drop Competition on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

Students will be working in small groups to design an enclosure to protect a pumpkin from damage when dropped from high altitudes. We will be dropping the creations from the roof of the A-Building onto concrete. Each team will extensively research other designs as they collaborate to create their own. This project involves every area of S.T.E.M. (SCIENCE, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

Students are requesting materials to complete their project. Materials must be at the school prior to Monday, October 12, 2026. It will help if the materials are brought in as soon as possible so students can plan their designs. They need a box with something to cushion the pumpkin. Some groups are going to need materials for a parachute. The items can be in any condition. This is an opportunity to “RECYCLE” items that might normally be thrown away. Below is a list of items that students have requested in the past. Any items that may be repurposed could be useful.

Twenty - Five Boxes –They should at least be large enough to hold a medium-size pumpkin with space to add cushioning. An example of a good size box would be 27 in x 15 in x 17 in. Smaller and larger boxes will be accepted.

Students in Mr. Brode's Earth and Space Science classes recently completed an activity about the rock cycle. In the activity, humans found a new planet with valuable minerals. The ground was completely unstable and dangerous. Each team member was an expert on one type of rock. The student's worked as a team of Space Engineers to change the dangerous ground into a safe, solid place for humans to build a colony. Each member contributed towards the solution.

Tonight, the BSHS football team honors their teachers with teacher appreciation night. Yesterday, the seniors chose teachers at BSHS who have made an impact on their education. Those teachers received a shirt to wear today with the players # on the arm to match their jerseys. We hope you’ll come out and cheer loud tonight at 6:30 before kickoff as we honor other MCS teachers!

Students from BSHS traveled to Shepherdstown for the 2026 World Affairs Seminar by the Eastern Panhandle Rotary Clubs. This year's theme: Taking the Vital Signs of the Planet's Health. Several BSHS students presented on behalf of their breakout groups!

Berkeley Springs FFA attended the empty bowls event for stirring points serving various soups to guests of the community alongside Warm Springs Middle School FFA.

Congratulations to BSHS FFA Poultry Team for placing 6th in the state at the State Career Development Events. Berkeley Springs FFA Students Participated in the State Poultry Judging Contest in Morgantown at the WVU Stewartstown farm. Students judge eggs, live birds, carcasses, cuts of meat.

Berkeley Springs FFA and dance class partnered with Warm Springs Watershed Association for United Way Day of Caring. The group worked to restore trails in the wetland at Widmyer school.

Berkeley Springs FFA and CNB bank partnered with Greenwood community center for United Way Day of Caring. The group worked to spread, level, and rake mulch for the playground area.

ELA 9 Honors is reading "Lord of the Flies " by William Golding. On Friday they read chapter 3 where the boys debate the importance of building shelter. Students were challenged to build the tallest structure possible, with a few challenges thrown in. Students had to learn bout teamwork and communication during this challenge.
