Morgan County Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Joan Smith as Director of Technology, effective March 2, 2026.
Ms. Smith brings more than 25 years of technology experience to this role. Since joining Morgan County Schools in 2011, she has served in several key positions within the Technology Department, including Technology Systems Specialist, Data and Communications Manager, supporting staff and students across the district.
Ms. Smith shared that she has “big shoes to fill,” but is excited for the opportunity to continue working with and supporting the Technology Team as they move forward together. She looks forward to building on the strong foundation already in place and continuing to provide high-quality technology support for students, staff, and schools across the county. She also extends her sincere appreciation to Mr. Tom Shade for his leadership and dedication to Morgan County Schools and wishes him all the best in his retirement.
Morgan County Schools congratulates Ms. Smith on her appointment and looks forward to her leadership and continued contributions in this new role.

What children should know and be able to do before starting kindergarten
Daily routines and expectations
How families can support learning at home
Important dates and next steps for enrollment

Energy Express is Hiring Site Coordinators – Summer 2026
Ready to lead and inspire this summer? Energy Express is hiring Site Coordinators from June 1 through July 24, 2026.
Position Highlights:
• Earn $9,000 for approximately 300 hours of summer leadership
• Guide and support a team of mentors
•Work with children Monday through Friday in a literacy-focused program
•Help students grow through reading, creativity, and community engagement
•Support families by creating a positive learning environment
